Fairfield Medical Center Recognized For Superior Care Of Heart Attack Patients

Fairfield Medical Center is one of only 95 hospitals in the country to receive the American College of Cardiology’s NCDR ACTION Registry Silver Performance Achievement Award. This award recognizes FMC’s commitment and success in providing a higher standard of care and treatment for heart attack patients as outlined by the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association.

American College of Cardiology’s NCDR ACTION Registry Silver Performance Achievement AwardTo receive this award, FMC had to demonstrate sustained achievement in the ACTION Registry for four consecutive quarters and perform at the top level of standards for specific performance measures.

“We are very proud to once again be recognized by the American College of Cardiology’s NCDR Action Registry,” said John R. “Jack” Janoso, Jr., FMC president and CEO. “Our entire heart and vascular team is dedicated to providing excellent, life-saving care and treatment to patients who experience a heart attack, as well as education and a comprehensive rehabilitation plan to improve the patient’s overall heart health and decrease their chances for a repeat event.”

ACTION Registry empowers healthcare providers to consistently treat heart attack patients according to the most current, science-based guidelines. It also establishes a national standard for understanding and improving the quality, safety and outcomes of care provided for patients with coronary artery disease, specifically high-risk heart attack patients.

The Center for Disease Control estimates that more than 700,000 Americans suffer a heart attack each year. A heart attack occurs when a blood clot in a coronary artery partially or completely blocks blood flow to the heart muscle. Treatment guidelines include administering aspirin upon arrival and discharge, timely restoration of blood flow to the blocked artery, smoking cessation counseling and cardiac rehabilitation, among others.

“This award is the result of the unwavering commitment put forth by each physician and staff member of FMC’s heart and vascular service line,” said Jeremy Buckley, M.D., interventional cardiologist with FHP Cardiology. “It truly takes an entire team of people committed to ensuring positive patient outcomes to achieve award winning results.”
