Fairfield Medical Center is one of only 197 hospitals nationwide to receive the American College of Cardiology Foundation’s 2013 NCDR ACTION Registry-GWTG Platinum Performance Achievement Award. The award recognizes FMC’s commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of care for heart attack patients. It also signifies that FMC has reached an aggressive goal of treating these patients to standard levels of care as outlined by the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association clinical guidelines and recommendations.

"This is a team award; it identifies our commitment to the absolute highest level of care for heart attack patients, from Emergency Medical Services to the Emergency Department to the Cath Lab to the ICU and discharge,” said Dr. Jeremy Buckley, interventional cardiologist at FMC. “It is the culmination of years of hard work by many dedicated professionals. It is the commitment we make to our community and Southeastern Ohio."

To receive the Platinum Performance Achievement Award, FMC consistently followed the treatment guidelines for eight consecutive quarters and met a performance standard of 90 percent for specific performance measures.

CARDIOVASCULAR SERVICES RECEIVES PLATINUM PERFORMANCE AWARD“We are blessed to have physician leadership that creates, expects and rewards the team of people who achieve these remarkable outcomes,” said Cynthia Pearsall, M.S.N., R.N., chief nursing officer at FMC. “Each of these patients experienced different people performing at near perfect levels from the time the patients called for help to the time they were tucked into a hospital bed feeling much better. It takes a multitude of individuals inside and outside the Center to achieve these results. Each in their own right is an expert.”

FMC Hospitalist Dr. Martha Buckley said the community is fortunate to have world-class heart attack care in Lancaster.

“These providers have overcome the challenges of rural health care delivery to create a well-oiled machine,” she said. “Knowing that our friends, neighbors and family members will be cared for by the best of the best is both comforting and inspiring."

ACTION Registry-GWTG is a risk-adjusted, outcomes-based, quality improvement program that focuses exclusively on high-risk, ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) and non-ST-elevation myocardial infarction patients (NSTEMI). It helps hospitals to apply ACC/AHA Clinical Guidelines recommendations in their facilities and provides invaluable tools to assist them in achieving their goal of quality improvement.
