How to Drug Proof Your Kids

This 6 session program is designed to help parents establish strategies that will prevent drug use and reduce associated harm.  Parents will be empowered with skills that will influence their children’s choices regarding the harmful use of drugs and provide them with relevant information on services, support, and resources available.    Based on the book Drug Proof Your Kids by Stephen Arterburn and Jim Burns, formulated further by Focus on the Family for the adaptation of skilled professionals to education community members on how to prevent drug abuse.  How to Drug Proof Your Kids is a community based education, prevention and early intervention program.  At its core is the belief that better-informed parents are more able to create strong family relationships through more open communication.  This in turn, will help children make better choices; and they will be less likely to use and abuse drugs.  This course includes education on drugs, why kids take drugs, recognition of use and presents parents with interventional strategies that will help reduce drug-related harm.
Looking for help is not a sign of weakness, but a sign of strength and love.  This program is now available to our community for group scheduling and open to weekend presentations at the Center.

P.I.C.K. Training

Marital distress is a major risk factor for many forms of dysfunction and psychopathology according to the recent National Institute of Mental health report on Prevention.  Marital and family discord, for example, has been correlated with higher rates of depression, lowered physical health, and poor worker production.  In addition, socio-economic stability is greatly altered.  For these reasons, Fairfield Medical Center now offers a 5 or 6-session training by a certified instructor for the P.I.C.K. Program.

The P.I.C.K. Program has been presented for 10 years, in eight countries and across the United States.   It organized a massive amount of research and theory about dating relationships and partner-selection in an exceptionally understandable and friendly format.  It has been validated by a recent study conducted by Ohio State University.

The PICK Program is best known for the sassy title How to Avoid Marrying a Jerk(ette).   Included among the instructors are professional counselors, therapists, psychologists, and social workers; there are clergy, hundreds of Army chaplains, Family Advocacy Managers, and chaplains in the Air Force, Navy, Coast Guard and Marines; there are instructors in High schools, college campuses, singles, organizations and marriage coalitions and initiatives, and then there are concerned parents and singles who just want to help promote partner-selection education.

This program is now available to our community for group scheduling and open for weekend presentations at the Center.
