History of Twigs
In
October 1887, Lois Whitney, a
member of the Rochester City
Hospital Board of Managers,
invited four friends for lunch.
Afterward, she drew from her
workbasket some hospital table
napkins which needed hemming.
Her friends offered to help, and
they spent the afternoon
chatting and sewing. Two weeks
later, the group expanded to
include eight friends who
enjoyed meeting together while
they accomplished a worthwhile
project for the hospital. The
new circle of friends decided
they were not really big enough
to be called a branch of
anything, so they called
themselves a 'twig'.
Today Fairfield Medical Center
has 11 active Twigs. Each Twig
works to assist the Center
through purchases of needed
equipment and support of
hospital programs. Over the past
40 plus years the Twigs have
donated more thant $3 million to
Fairfield Medical Center for
community healthcare. For more
information about Twig
membership or additional
information about any of the
Twig projects contact Ricki
Chenault, Executive Director of
the Fairfield Medical Center
Foundation, 740-687-8107 or

Tree of Light
and Bridge-A-Rama
|
|
 |
Tree of Light - The
December holiday season is a
time of giving and sharing. Each
year the Twig decorates two
trees, one in the north lobby of
the hospital and one in the
south lobby. For a donation
everyone is invited to sponsor a
light on the Tree in honor or in
memory of someone. The honoree,
or a family member in the case
of a memory light, will receive
notification that a light is
shining in his/her name. A Book
of Honor, posted by the Tree,
lists the names of all donors
and honorees.
Bridge-A-Rama - From
October 1 through May 31 each
year Bridge-A-Rama is a fun
event for those who play
contract bridge. There is a
Ladies Afternoon Group and
an Evening Couples Group.
Play is governed by the rules of
the American Bridge League.
The host/hostess for the month
is responsible for contacting
the other three players early in
the month to arrange the date of
play. Each player pays $16 for
the entire session. Twenty hands
are played in each monthly
session.
In
addition to the fun, partners in
each group can win prizes. A $10
prize is awarded monthly to the
partners with the highest score.
Grand prizes are awarded at the
end of the Bridge-A-Rama year;
$50 to the partners with the
highest total score for all
eight months, $30 to the
partners with the second highest
total and $20 to the partners
with the third highest total.
