Cardiac Event Monitoring
To determine if a heart is beating irregularly or has irregular rhythms, FMC medical staff apply what is known as a Holter Monitor to cardiac patients. This monitor records a patient’s heartbeat for 24 to 48 hours and is worn in conjunction with five electrodes placed on the patient’s chest. These electrodes are attached to a belt that is worn around a patient’s waist. Patients keep a diary during the monitoring process to track symptoms.
The monitor report is generated and interpreted by a specialist and the results are shared with the patient’s family physician.
