Fairfield Medical Center Celebrates Its Certified Nurses
LANCASTER, Ohio (September 26, 2011) - Fairfield Medical Center recently celebrated its certified nurses by honoring them at a luncheon in the Fairfield Medical Center Assembly Rooms on September 7.
Cynthia Pearsall, MSN, RN, NEA-BC, Chief Nursing Officer at FMC, commented, “Our certified nurses represent the highest level in healthcare and I am proud to say I work alongside of them. Such certification promotes high quality care and safety within our walls and I can’t say enough about how important this is to our patients and the community as a whole.”
Board certification of nurses plays an increasingly important role in the assurance of high standards of care for patients and their loved ones. Nursing, like health care in general has become increasingly complex. While a registered nurse (RN) license provides entry to general nursing practice, the knowledge-intensive requirements of modern nursing require extensive post-secondary and continuing education and a strong personal commitment to excellence by the nurse.
Fairfield Medical Center encourages national board certification for all its nurses. Patients are encouraged to inquire whether there are certified nurses on staff when they visit a hospital or their primary care provider. There are many nursing certification specialties such as medical-surgical, pediatric, pain management, cardiac vascular, oncology, hospice, case management, emergency nursing, critical care and many others. Many nursing certification bodies exist to serve the full range of specialized nursing care offered in the contemporary health care system; national nurse-certifying bodies should be accredited by either the American Board of Nursing Specialties (ABNS) or the National Organization for Competence Assurance (NOCA), or both.
Certification includes: National Association of Orthopedic Nursing (NAON), Certified Emergency Nursing (CEN), Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN), Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR), Cardiac Medicine Certification (CMC), Progressive Care Certified Nursing (PCCN), Orthopedic Nurse Certification (ONC), International Board Certified Lactation Certification, (IBCLC), Certified Gastrology Registered Nurse (CGRN), Certified Case Manager (CCM), Certified Post Anesthesia Nursing (CPAN), Certified Ambulatory Post Anesthesia (CAPA), Cardiac Surgery Certification (CSC), Certified Nurse Practitioner (CNP), Certified Registered Central Sterile Technician (CRCST), Certified Wound Specialist (CWS), Low Risk Neonatal (LRN), Nursing Executive (NE) and Nursing Executive Advanced (NEA).
