Orthopedic Care

Fairfield Medical Center’s newly renovated, state-of-the-art, Orthopedic Unit offers advanced care to patients. Designed specifically for patients recovering from orthopedic-related surgeries and injuries, the 13 private room unit ensures privacy and comfort during your stay. Thorough patient education is provided before and after surgery. Both outpatient and inpatient options are available.

Board-certified orthopedic surgeons, who conducted 3,664 surgeries in 2012, and staff are progressive in providing the latest technology while putting patients first. These surgeons treat patients undergoing knee, hip and shoulder surgery, as well as a wide variety of orthopedic injuries including total joint replacement. Certified orthopedic nurses who have received focused training in this medical specialty provide unparalleled care to all patients on the unit. Each registered nurse in the orthopedic unit must meet certain criteria to be eligible to sit for the certification exam offered by the National Association of Orthopedic Nurses (NAON). Upon completion of the criterion nurses must pass a test before being awarded certification. Currently, the orthopedic unit is staffed with 100% certified orthopedic nurses. We hold our staff to the highest standards to ensure you receive the highest quality of specialized care.

Each patient receives expert physical therapy the day of surgery, and twice daily thereafter until hospital discharge to ensure a fast road to successful recovery. When needed, a comprehensive sports and work-related injury rehabilitation program is also offered.

Satisfaction rates for FMC orthopedic patients are consistently at 98%, which earned the unit the prestigious President’s Award. When you choose Fairfield Medical Center’s Orthopedic Unit, you choose quality care in a private home-like environment, with many amenities for you and your family to enjoy.

In addition to striving for patient satisfaction we also provide the safest and cleanest environments for patients. According to the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN), nationally the overall surgical site infection (SSI) rate is 2%. Fairfield Medical Center’s rate is well below the average at 1.1%. Part of maintaining patient safety is reducing the usage of oral pain control medication. With the introduction of the femoral nerve block program, usage of oral pain control medication has been reduced by 28% for total joint replacement patients.
