Fairfield Medical Center

Arrhythmia Clinic

For more than 10 years, our clinic has monitored patients’ cardiac defibrillator devices so that they may lead active, normal lives. Patients come to the clinic to have their internal defibrillators checked; other devices can be checked by phone. This is a 30-minute, painless process. It is staffed with 3 fulltime registered nurses.

The clinic is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 4:30 pm. For questions or information about the Arrhythmia Clinic, please call (740) 687-8170.

Cardiac Event Monitoring

To determine if a heart is beating irregularly or has irregular rhythms, FMC medical staff apply what is known as a Holter Monitor to cardiac patients. This monitor records a patient’s heartbeat for 24 to 48 hours and is worn in conjunction with five electrodes placed on the patient’s chest. These electrodes are attached to a belt that is worn around a patient’s waist. Patients keep a diary during the monitoring process to track symptoms.

The monitor report is generated and interpreted by a specialist and the results are shared with the patient’s family physician.

For more information, please contact the Cardiovascular Services Department at (740) 687-8170.

Echocardiography

An echocardiogram is an ultrasound of your heart. This test consists of placing a transducer on a patient’s chest to take two-dimensional pictures of the heart. This test evaluates the function of the four chambers of the heart to see if they are pumping blood properly. This test also evaluates the valves of the heart to determine if they are opening and closing properly. Once this test is completed, the cardiologist will review the study and create a report to be distributed to your family physician.

Cardiac Catheterization

CathOur cardiac catheterization labs are staffed with registered nurses and special procedure technologists specially trained to perform diagnostic heart catheterizations, cardiac/peripheral interventions, implantable devices (i.e. pacemakers and ICDs) kyphoplasty, tips, IVC filters, central lines, dialysis catheters, and carotid/cerebral angiograms.

Hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. with 24-hour call coverage.

For more information, please call (740) 687-8170

Angioplasty & Stents

The result of a cardiac catheterization may indicate that you have a narrowed artery that can be opened by angioplasty and/or stenting. Angioplasty is sometimes referred to as a PTCA- percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty, or balloon angioplasty. It is a non-surgical treatment designed to open clogged arteries to restore blood flow. Angioplasty is commonly performed with stenting, in which a balloon is used to expand a metal sleeve inside the artery.

For more information, please contact the Cardiovascular Services Department at (740) 687-8170. To schedule, please call (740) 687-8666.
