LANCASTER, Ohio (November 9, 2011) – Dr. Andrew Murry, infectious disease physician at Fairfield Medical Center (FMC), strongly encourages everyone six months and older to get their annual flu shot this year. This is also a recommendation from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).
Influenza is a serious disease that can lead to hospitalization and sometimes–even death as reported by the CDC. “We know that every flu season is different and that the flu can affect us differently. People are often shocked to find out that even healthy people can get very sick from the flu,” said Dr. Murry. He also noted that the flu season in the U.S. is usually from November through April each year.
“Your best chance of defending yourself during this time is by getting your annual seasonal flu vaccine, either the flu shot or the nasal-spray flu vaccine,” Dr. Murry explained. “You will then decrease your chances of getting the flu and spreading it to others.”
Please be sure to ask your physician today what you can do to get the vaccine. It is also available in many places around the community from the Clinic at Walmart (operated by Fairfield Medical Center) in Lancaster, Logan and Canal Winchester to the Health Department.
Take time to protect yourself and those around you from the flu by getting vaccinated! For questions or more information, please contact Dr. Murry at (740) 687-8805.
