Dr. John Dewalt Selected as the 2011 Outstanding Physician Award Recipient from the Centers for Osteopathic Research and Education
LANCASTER, Ohio (July 11, 2011) – Fairfield Medical Center is proud to announce Dr. John Dewalt, Vascular Surgeon, as the 2011 Outstanding Physician Award recipient on behalf of the Centers for Osteopathic Research and Education (CORE).
“Your outstanding clinical teaching is truly beneficial to the students in the CORE. On behalf of the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine, I want to thank you for being an exemplary role model and for your outstanding contribution to our clinical program,” said John A. Brose, D.O., Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine Dean.
Students from the CORE nominated Dr. Dewalt based on his passion for teaching and his willingness to go above and beyond for his students. One of the student nominators commented, “Coming into the surgery rotation, I was scared and didn’t want to look stupid or inferior. Dr. Dewalt was able to change that feeling, by commenting ‘you should probably read up on this topic, here have this book.’” Fourteen books later, the student had his own vascular surgery library all thanks to Dr. Dewalt.
Another student noted, “He didn’t have to give the student all of those books; he did it because he is just that type of teacher. He knows the best resources available and wants to provide them to his students. If he didn’t have a particular book, he would order it from Amazon and give it to the student. Dr. Dewalt helped students gown and glove during surgery, explained all the anatomy, and even how the instruments worked.”
Dr. Steven Cox, Chief Medical Officer at Fairfield Medical Center, is very proud of Dr. Dewalt’s impact on students at the Center. “The FMC team sends out its congratulations to Dr. Dewalt for being selected for this prestigious award. He is definitely deserving.”
