Six Steps to Help Stop the Spread of COVID-19

These six steps are important ways that you can help to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Wash and sanitize hands

Wash and Sanitize Hands

Clean your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds (two rounds of “Happy Birthday”). If soap and water are not readily available, use hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol. Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.

Wear a mask

Wear a Mask

Wear a face covering with two or more layers that fully covers your nose and mouth when around others. It is important to always wear a mask in public settings, unless you are eating or drinking. You should also wear a mask when you are around people who don’t live in your household and social distancing measures are difficult to maintain.

Social distance

Social Distance

Outside of your home maintain at least 6 feet (2 meters) of distance from others. Avoid close contact with people who are sick – even if they live in your household. Remember that keeping distance from others will help protect you and others from getting infected.

Clean and sanitize surfaces

Clean and Sanitize Surfaces

Disinfect frequently touched surfaces daily. This includes cell phones, keyboards, doorknobs, countertops, toilets, faucets, sinks and light switches. Make sure to use a product that will kill coronavirus. Common household cleaners that have been approved by the EPA may be found here.

Stay home if sick

Stay Home If Sick

Be on alert for symptoms of COVID-19. If you are experiencing a fever, cough, sudden shortness of breath or other symptoms associated with COVID-19, please stay home except to get medical care. Most people who get COVID-19 have mild symptoms and can recover in the comfort of their home. Keep away from others if you are ill – even those in your own household.

Avoid crowds (especially indoors)

Avoid Crowds – Especially Indoors

Stay away from people and don’t gather in groups. If you do encounter crowds, wear your mask and social distance. Try your best to avoid indoor spaces that are not well-ventilated.
