Almost five years ago, Michael Parrish had the first of what would be many conversations with oncology nurse navigator Holly Griffith. Like most newly diagnosed cancer patients, Michael arrived to that appointment feeling scared and uncertain; just weeks earlier, a trip to Fairfield Medical Center’s Emergency Department for severe stomach pain had led to a pancreatic cancer diagnosis and Michael had a lot of questions about what his future looked like in terms of treatment.

The compassionate care that Doug McFarland received from the providers and staff at Fairfield Medical Center helped him navigate the emotional roller coaster of heart conditions and colon cancer. Following a successful emergency heart valve replacement surgery in 2018, Doug continued to feel like something wasn’t quite right. In 2019, he shared his concerns with his primary care physician, who strongly recommended rescheduling Doug’s screening colonoscopy from February 2020 to November 2019, a decision that Doug credits with saving his life.

Driven to GIVE – a Foundation Spotlight

Loving wife Joyce Murphy lost her husband, Earl “Butch” Murphy, Jr., to cancer in March. Butch fought a five-year battle with multiple myeloma, a form of cancer that affects plasma cells found in bone marrow, and received his care at Fairfield Medical Center’s Cancer Care and Infusion Center.
