Open Abdominal Aneurysm Repair – the damaged section of the aorta is removed and replaced with a synthetic graft which is sewn into place. This is a major surgical procedure that requires a 4-10 day hospital stay and patients may take up to three months to fully recover.
Carotid Endarterectomy – an incision is made in the front of the neck to remove plaque from the carotid artery. After plaque is removed, the artery is repaired with stitches or a patch. Depending on their condition, patients may go home or may spend 1-2 days in the hospital.
Peripheral Artery Bypass – for patients with advanced vascular disease who are not good candidates for angioplasty or have had an unsuccessful angioplasty, lower extremity bypass surgery is a highly effective treatment option. Bypass surgery is a major surgical procedure in which the surgeon redirects the flow of blood around a damaged blood vessel using a healthy vein from elsewhere in the body. Patients usually spend 1-2 days in the hospital and are fully recovered in 6-8 weeks.
