All patients having surgery at Fairfield Medical Center require either a Pre-Anesthesia and Testing (PAT) telephone call or PAT Clinic visit prior to the day of surgery. This is to allow for thorough preoperative evaluation, diagnostic testing and education. Your PAT Clinic visit allows us to provide optimal care during and following your procedure and to promote the best possible surgical outcome. If you are unable to keep this appointment, it may result in a delay or cancellation of your surgery.
Your PAT Clinic appointment should be scheduled within 14 days of the surgery. Your physician’s office will work with the PAT Clinic to determine if you require an office visit or a phone consultation. If you have any questions about your specific testing, please contact your doctor’s office.
The PAT Clinic appointment will consist of testing and, if needed, physical therapy instruction and a discussion about your current health status. Your results will be reviewed by an anesthesiologist prior to your surgery and is a critical component to the process.
Please remember to bring a complete list of medications and dosages that you are currently taking (prescription, over-the-counter and herbals) to your PAT Clinic appointment.
Common tests conducted during the PAT appointment:
- Complete blood count (CBC)
- Complete medical profile
- Electrocardiogram (EKG)
- Stress test
- Pacemaker or defibrillator placement report (as needed)
