What to Know Before You Go

Speaking To The doctor Thank you for choosing Fairfield Medical Center for your healthcare needs. We know that a hospital stay can be a stressful time for patients and their families. To assist you through this time, we have prepared a list of useful pages to help locate information you may need before your visit, procedure, or after your stay. Our goal is to make it as easy as possible for you to navigate your time with us.

We encourage you to seek assistance from the nursing staff with any concerns. Our patient advocates and customer service teams want to know about your FMC experience. While your nurse or physician is your immediate contact when concerns arise, patient representatives will also listen closely to your concerns, investigate your questions, and respond in a timely manner. Our goal is to provide an excellent experience for every patient, every day.

Whether you are coming to one of our facilities for an overnight inpatient stay or an outpatient procedure, there are several things you can do to prepare for your stay.

Follow Physician Instructions

Your physician or surgeon may give you instructions about what you may eat or drink as well as medications you should take – or avoid – in the hours before your procedure. It is very important to make sure you understand these instructions and follow them.

Your physician may give you instructions on bathing/showering before your procedure and may ask you to use a specific type of soap or cleanser.

Ask your physician’s office for written instructions to follow in preparation for your procedure. We encourage you to contact your physician’s office if you have any questions about your procedure or need more information or clarity about the steps you are asked to take in preparation.

What To Bring With You

Bring any paperwork that the physician’s office has given you. Also, please bring a list of the names and dosages of any medications you take. Be sure to inform us at admission if you have any allergies (to antibiotics, latex, common foods, etc.).

Your Personal Items

Please leave jewelry, valuables and large sums of money at home. Keep personal items that you need, such as dentures, eyeglasses and hearing aids, in protective cases in your bedside stand when not in use. We cannot take responsibility for these items.

During Your Stay

Your comfort and safety is our top priority. We ask that you partner with us in your care by asking questions, letting us know about your condition and how you are feeling and by being aware of safety practices.

Ask About Hand Washing

You can expect each of your caregivers to clean their hands before caring for you. If you do not see this occur, ask and remind your caregiver. Good hand hygiene helps prevent infections. You may wish to remind your family and friends to wash their hands or use hand sanitizer during their visit.
