Living in Fairfield County

FMC-Heart-patient-hikingFairfield County’s rich history, vibrant culture and warm summers offer plenty of opportunity to celebrate outdoors with a wide variety of festivals and arts and entertainment events.

Our community is a growing area southeast of Columbus. The area offers a diversity of cultural amenities found in much larger cities, yet still maintains its small-town charm.

Fairfield County contains more than 1,000 acres of beautiful parks, which are perfect for picnicking, hiking and enjoying the great outdoors. Our historical park district features a former presidential cemetery, a section of the Ohio and Erie Canal, five of the county’s 18 original covered bridges and a gristmill that boasts the nation’s largest all-wooden waterwheel.

Our Community and History

When you join Fairfield Medical Center, you become a part of an organization dedicated to its patients, employees, families and the communities we serve.

Fairfield County was formed on Dec. 9, 1800, by a proclamation of Gov. Aurthur St. Clair. The county was named for the beauty of its fair fields and sits just on the edge of Ohio’s Appalachian region. While the once-glaciated northern portion of the county is fairly flat, as one travels south along U.S. 33,  the foothills of a mountainous region are recognizable beginning around the village of Carroll. This trip will lead you to the scenic Hocking
