Lancaster Golden Gales Touchdown Club Donates Football Keepsakes to FMC Newborns

Touchdown Club Maternity Football Donation

Every baby born at Fairfield Medical Center will receive a small Lancaster Golden Gales football thanks to a donation from the Lancaster Golden Gales Touchdown Club.

Members of the club, along with the Lancaster High School head football coach Bryan Schoonover, presented 500 footballs to representatives of FMC’s Maternity Department on Monday, June 28. The club will replenish FMC’s supply of footballs on a regular basis to ensure that every baby has an opportunity to receive this special keepsake.

“When I got hired, I thought this would be a fun idea, and when I brought it up at our Touchdown Club meeting, everyone was on board,” Schoonover said. “Hopefully the parents will enjoy it. I believe Lancaster is a special place, and people want to raise their children here. Hopefully we are creating a tradition that continues on for a very long time.”

The first baby born at FMC to receive a football was Landon VanAtta. The baby’s parents are Katie and Kyle VanAtta.

Deb Price, manager of FMC’s Maternity Department, said she believes the footballs will be well-received by the families who deliver at FMC. “It is exciting to have the Lancaster Gales Sports Association be a part of each new family member in the community,” Price said. “Organized sports help kids learn teamwork and leadership skills, and develop pride in themselves and the community. The Maternity staff is pleased to be a part of this project, and I know the patients and their families will be excited to have this token as a memento of the birth of their child.”
