The Southeastern Ohio United States Bowling Congress (USBC) #80771 recently presented a check for $20,000 to the Fairfield Medical Center Foundation’s Cancer Care Fund, which supports patients receiving cancer treatment at FMC. The money was raised through a single event called Strike Out Breast Cancer, which is hosted by the Southeastern Ohio USBC and held every October at Tiki Lanes in Lancaster. In 2024, the event organizers met their goal of $20,000 to celebrate the event’s 20th anniversary. To date, this is the largest donation the FMC Foundation has received from Strike Out Breast Cancer.
“On behalf of our team and our Board of Directors, we are truly grateful for the continued support of The Southeastern Ohio United States Bowling Congress,” said Tracy Kelly, executive director of the FMC Foundation. “This generous gift of $20,000 is a heartfelt example of neighbors helping neighbors, and will help change the lives of patients here in our community.”
Strike Out Breast Cancer has grown tremendously over the past 20 years with the help of pledges, sponsorships, T-shirt sales and a raffle. SOBC vice president Valerie Eckman and SOBC association manager Joy Kellenbarger, who both co-chair the event, said this success would not be possible without the support of the local bowling community and the many businesses who participate in the event or serve as sponsors.
“Even through COVID-19 when we could not bowl, we still raised funds for this great cause,” Kellenbarger said. “I have said for years that bowlers are the best and most generous people I know.”
