Telemedicine allows you the option to continue receiving comprehensive healthcare while minimizing your risk of infection during the COVID-19 outbreak. The benefits offered by telemedicine are numerous, including:
Reduces Risk of Exposure to Illness
Because telemedicine allows you to connect with your healthcare team remotely, it can reduce the risk of exposure to a variety of infectious illnesses, including COVID-19, influenza and even the common cold.
Increases Access to Healthcare
Telemedicine connects providers to patients who may otherwise have difficulty obtaining healthcare. Barriers to care that may be eliminated by telemedicine include living in a rural location, having limited access to specialists, personal time constraints, reduced mobility and lack of transportation.
Promotes Continuity of Care
Managing chronic disease(s) is an important part of staying healthy. By maintaining frequent communication with your healthcare team, you can reduce the risk of complications, hospital readmissions and lapses in treatment.
Fits Conveniently into Your Day
Whether it’s from your couch at home or your desk at work, you and your loved ones can receive care at the push of a button. By eliminating the need to come into the office for certain visits, you can save valuable time and resources.
Expands Beyond Virtual Appointments
Telemedicine consists of more than virtual appointments: did you know you can access your medical records, review test results, request prescription refills and contact your provider using My FMC Portal? To learn more, speak with your provider’s office, or click here.
When Should I Use Telemedicine?
Telemedicine is great for wellness exams, medication management and routine follow-ups. If you have additional concerns, your provider will help you decide whether a virtual or in-office appointment is most appropriate. Conditions that are not emergent and do not require intensive or ongoing care can often be treated using virtual medicine.
If you are interested in scheduling a telehealth appointment, contact your healthcare provider’s office and ask about available options. If you do not have a healthcare provider, click here to learn more about our primary care services.
